On May 9 – 10, 2023, the Portland Police Department arrested and charged four men in conjunction with the December 21, 2022 shooting in Kennedy Park. Seventeen rounds from a high power rifle were shot into a residence just days before Christmas last year said Chief Gorham at a press conference this afternoon.
Those arrested are: Noor M. Aden, charged with Aggravated Attempted Murder Conspiracy to Commit Murder; Abukar Abdi, charged with Conspiracyto Commit Murder; Jaheim Whiting, faces Aggravated Attempted Murder Conspiracy to Commit Murder charges; Jabre Myers, charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder. At a brief press conference this afternoon Interim Police Chief Heath Gorham said that it took detectives five months to arrest the four suspects. “These detectives didn’t let it go,” he said. He did not know the date of the arraignment. Several dozen search warrants were executed as well as other legal avenues pursued. The investigation continues he said so he was somewhat limited in the informtion he could disclose at the press conference.
Chief Gorham stated: “We would like to thank the FBI Safe Streets task force, Maine State Police, Lewiston Police Department and the District Attorney’s office for the countless hours of assistance in apprehending these suspects and continuing to make our streets safer, all the while giving the victims a bit of closure in these heinous crimes.”
