On Monday, May 4, 2026, at  9:58 am., Portland Police responded to Shalom House, located at 503 Woodford Street, for a report of a stabbing

Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suspect had stabbed a 40-year-old female employee before exiting the building.  The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.  The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.  The deceased has been identified as Marlene McNeill, 40, of Gorham.  The Portland Police Department extends its condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Officers quickly located the suspect on the property at 10:04 am and took him into custody without incident.  The suspect, Armando Javier Negrete, 40, a resident of Shalom House, was arrested and charged with Murder and later transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation and no further details will be released at this time.
