The annual Shipyard Old Port Half Marathon and 5K Races are set to go off on Sunday, July 13th on Munjoy Hill.
The half marathon race begins at 7:00 am and finishes at Ocean Gateway. So far, almost 3,000 are expected to run. A time limit of 3 hours and 15 minutes is strictly enforced. The 5K race expects about 700 to participate. That race starts at 7:30 am at Cutter Street and the Eastern Promenade.
Last year 3,000 ran the race which had an altered course due to bridge construction. The altered course was hillier and caused a handful of runners to be treated at a local hospital for heat exhaustion.
The first race was established back on Sunday, July 24th 2011. At that time 800 registered for the race according to Erik Boucher, of GiddyUp Productions LLC. Shipyard Brewery was added in 2012.
