The blue spruce Christmas Tree arrived in Monument Square this morning and it is a beauty. The gorgeous tree was donated by Alan and Jennifer Betters of South Portland.
In keeping with tradition the Christmas Tree LIghting Ceremony will be on Friday, November 23 at 5:30 pm. The ceremony is sponsored by MEMIC Insurance Company. The Portland Public library is open until 6 pm with its annual open house and complimentary refreshments.
Following the ceremony, Make-A-Wish Maine will bring Alilce Denecker, Portland, to the stage to help light the tree. Alice is four years old and diagnosed with neuorblastoma. “We look forward to Alice joining us this year to light this very special tree and enjoy the magic of the holiday season,” said Jan Beitzer, executive Director of Portland’s Downtown District, in a press released by it today.
Entertainment for the entire family includes performances from the Maine State Ballet and Rick Charette and the Bubblegum Band, and of course, a special guest arrives by Portland Fire Truck!
