The Decorated Holiday Tree in Monument Square in Downtown Portland Last Year.

The annual search for a holiday tree to light up Monument Square is underway according to the city of Portland.  Residents of the Greater Portland area are invited to help find the perfect evergreen tree to brighton the heart of our city.  The “winning tree” will be selected based on the following criteria:

The chosen tree must be an evergreen, spruce or fir; 45 – 60 feet tall; free from power lines and other obstructions to facilitate safe removal and transporation; and lastly, be located in Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, Gorham, Westbrook, Falmouth, Cumberland or Yarmouth.

The chosen tree will be carefully removed and transported from its current location at no cost to the owner.  Visit portlandmaine.com/tree to submit your tree nomination by November 1, 2024 to be part of this annual tradition on Monument Square in downtown Portland.
