You are invited to attend a free community Summit for older Portland residents on Thursday, September 18, 2025. The Summit will be held at the Jewish Community Alliance, 1342 Congress Street and it runs from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Lunch will be included. The purpose is to engage Portland’s older residents on a range of topics tailored to the needs, interests and experiences of older adults. The Summit is free to attend, but spots are limited and registration is required. To register you may call LInda Weare at 207 – 546-6620.
The Summit’s agenda features presentations from subject matter experts, including the American Red Cross, the Portland Fire Department and the National Weather Service. These sessiions will cover topics ranging from disaster preparedness planning to fire safety tips, with an emphasis on the unique circumstances that come with planning as an older adult. This Summit is especially timely as staff are currently in the process of updating the city’s emergency operations plan.
“Age-friendly communities increase the ability of citizens to remain safe, active, included in all aspects of community llife as they age,” said Linda Weare, the City’s Office of Elder Affairs Director and a member of Age-Frendly Portland. “The goal of Age-Friendly Portland is to make our city more accessible and welcoming for people of all ages.”
