Absentee Voting Information for November 4 Election in Portland

VOTING MATTERS THIS YEAR!. AND EVERY YEAR!

In-person early absentee voting for the November 4 State Referendum and Municipal Election begins Monday, October 6, 2025 in the State of Maine Room, adjacent to the City Clerk’s Office, on the 2nd floor of City Hall.  Regular hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.  For those who have requesed their absentee ballot sent to them, those will begin going out in the mail on Friday, October 3rd.

The last day to in-person absentee vote is Thursday, October 30th, unless you have a special circumstance.  The Clerk’s Office will be open until 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 30th only for voter registation and in-person absentee voting

Absentee ballots an be requested online, by mail, or by calling 207 – 874-8677.

The external ballot drop box will be set up at City Hall and Canco Road and ready to receive completed absentee ballots 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Absentee ballots must be returned by 8:00 pm on Election Day.  Absentee ballots must be returned via mail or the external ballot box outside of city hall and Canco Road and not to your normal polling place.  Due to the high volume of absentee ballots, the City Clerk is askdig that residents return their completed and signed absentee ballots to the Clerk’s Office as quickly as posssible.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, and all polling places will be open 7:00 am – 8:00 pm on that day.  The following will be voted on:  City Council at-large; School Board at-large, 3 seats; POrtland Water District; District 3 voters ONLY; City Council District 3 and School Board District 3; Peaks Island Voters ONLY; Peaks Island Council, Three Seats; Casco Bay LInes Director; city council initiated amendment and two state referendum questions.

Voters can register to vote, update their voter registation or change their party status online up to 15 days before Election Day.  You must be in a party for three months before changing to another party.  The deadline to register to vote online or by mail is Wednesday, October 15, 2025.  Please call the city clerk’s office at 207 – 874-8677 to verify your voter registration status.

Now that city hall has become a voting location, 250 feet about city hall becomes a protected area from campagin activity.  This remans in effectd until after Election Day and means no campaign activity can happen within the building from October 6th until polls close on November 4th.
