218 Washington Avenue Will be Replaced by a 45-Unit Condominium.

The sand colored stucco building at 218 Washington Avenue will be removed initially to make room for a 45-unit condominium said Vinny Maietta recently, d/b/a 218-220 Washington Avenue LLC.  The company has filed an application with the City of Portland for a Level 111 Site Plan, although no date has been set for that review.  The planning board is on overload with projects to review.

Forty-five (45) parking spaces for this 45-unit condominium will be under the building. Twenty-two (22) one bedroom units are proposed with twenty-three (23) two bedroom units proposed as well.  Eighteen (18) bicycle spaces are proposed.  The property abuts that of Ron Gan. (In the past, Gan has tried unsuccessfully to develop property in the area – resulting in the formation of the non-profit – Save Sumner Court.)

Maietta said there will be lots of glass in the front of the building to take advantage of the views over Back Cove.  The architect is Bill Hopkins of Archetype Architects, Portland.
