A building fire at 23 Pembroke Street at 5:16 PM yesterday morning was responded to by the Portland Fire Department. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames emitting from the roof. A second alarm was transmitted at 5:43 am. A third alarm was transmitted at 5:56 am for coverage of the city and additional personnel to assist with extreme overhead related to the size and constrution of the building. The bulk of the fire was knocked down by 6:23 am.
There had been a smaller fire in the building the night before around the time of heavy thunderstorm activity. It is unknown at this time if the fires are relaed. Both fires are under investigation and no cause has been determined yet. Neither fire is considered suspicious at this time.
There were no injuries to residents or firefighters. Seven residents of the 3 unit residential building had been displaced from the building after the initial fire.
