A 3-alarm fire last night at 6 Cumberland Avenue has been determined to be accidental. The fire displaced 13 people from the building. It suffered heavy fire damage on all floors according to a press release issued by the city of Portland spokesperson. .
When the fire department arrived at the scene just before 8:00 pm., the fire had already spread to three other nearby buildings. They are 10 Cumberland Avenue and 10 and 14 Merrill Street. In total, 33 tenants from four apartment buildings received assistance from the Red Cross. No injuries have been reported.
The origin of the fire was on the first floor apartment at 6 Cumberland Avenue by a faculty electric cooking stove in the kitchen.
