The Ramp Leading to the Portland Express Water Taxi Dock Between the Casco Bay Ferry Service & Flatbread on Commercial Street.
By Carol McCracken (Post # 2,472)
The 24-foot boat used by Adam Patterson, 30, an employee of the Portland Express Water Taxi was located early yesterday morning on Kennebunk Beach. Seriously damaged, there was no sign of Patterson in the area.
The Maine Marine Patrol was notified early on Wednesday morning that Patterson, of Cape Elizabeth, was missing, Patterson had taken the taxi boat out into Casco Bay earlier in the morning and had not returned. Gusty winds and high seas were reported in the Bay that morning, unsafe conditions for a 24-foot boat, although Patterson was considered a skilled and knowledgeable sailor. It has been reported that Patterson had been living aboard his sailboat recently because of marital problems.
A walker on Parsons Beach found the boat imbedded in the beach yesterday. Given the poor condition of the boat and the weather conditions, authorities believe that Patterson could not have survived.
