Please call Senator Susan Collins (R) in her Washington, D.C. office TODAY and urge her to oppose the Trump tax bill she supported last week and thereby allows oil and gas drilling in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, “one of the wildest and most special wilderness places left on earth,” is the request `of Glen Brand, Chapter Director of the Sierra Club of Maine.
The Senator’s Washington, D.C. phone number is: 202 – 224-2523. It is a toll call since it goes to the nation’s capitol. This blogger called this number earlier today and was not connected to a staff member, but rather an answering machine. Does that indicate her office is receiving numerous calls on this and other provisions of the proposed tax plan?
Mainers expect the Senator to represent ordinary Mainers and not special interest corporations and other wealthy interests. The Gwich’in Natives of Alaska and Canada have always and will continue to subsist on the Porcupine Caribou herd, whose calving grounds are in the Refugee’s coastal plains.
In an editorial in the Sunday, December 10, 2017 “New York Times” said: One official estimate says the refuge may contain about seven billion barrels of technically (but not necessarily economically) recoverable oil, a huge find but not much more than one year’s annual consumption in this country. Like nearly all other Alaska politicians, Ms. (Lisa) Murkowski (R) wants that oil extracted because Alaskans would benefit from its royalties. But all previous attempts to open the refuge have failed………the coastal plain’s value as a wilderness and as home to an astonishing variety of wildlife – it has been called America’s Serengeti – trumped whatever temporary addition it could make to America’s domestic oil supply.”
Please call Senator Collins in the Washington, D.C. office and tell her that we cannot allow drilling in the Arctic Refuge. She will have another opportunity to reverse her vote from last week. That will come when the Senate and House versions of the tax bill are reconciled soon according to Brand’s press release.
As an ardent supporter of Lyin’ Jeff Sessions, Senator Collins has accumulated a lot to account for!
Thank you in advance for taking an active role in his important matter.
Hmmmm. Short of an “in person” double dope slap across each cheek, a big konk on the head to knock some sense into her, I don’t have much hope for a reversal. All kinds of protests across the state, including huge March over the bridge from Portsmouth to Kittery. I don’t think she has a chance in hell of getting re-elected. I’d never vote for her. Mr Bean for senate!
Right on Rob!
