“He has put democracy in distress,” said Chris Beasley, about President Trump this morning at the weekly Saturday morning protest at Monument Square in Portland.

Mr. Beasley attends these rallies to protest the policies of President Donald J. Trump. He served in the military, and was employed in agricultural management. He and  his wife relocated to Maine from Boston about 15 years ago.

Instructions on showing respect for the flag are spelled out in detail in 4 US Code of which Mr. Beasley had a copy.  The preamble to the code states:  “No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing.  Regimental colors, State flags and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.”

The original meaning of displaying the US flag upside down is “a signal of dire distess in instances of exteme danger to life or property”  exists.  Lately, however the meaning of an upside down American flag has shifted and become protests against presidents.

And certainly for many Americans there is plenty to protest.  Sometimes the daily persual of “The New York Times” can be such a disturbing time that it is better to just read the headlines, if that.

Yesterday’s frontpage headline:  “Fauci is Rebuked in Contempt Vote by Senate Panel,” the mob leader in this outrageous attack on a national hero  is Sen. Rand Paul, (R).

Today’s front page embarrasment is that “Many in Iran Feel Betrayed by US Vow,” from President Trump that:  “HELP IS ON ITS WAY.”

Americans know  what that means: We’ ve been there and heard that ourselves.  The help we were promised by President Trump to lower costs at the grocery store, gas pump and elsewhere has not arrived. No Forever Wars Either. That help won’t arrive because Trump is clueless on how to end the war on Iran;  and it’s becoming more and more of a necessriy each day as the mid-terms get closer.   These promises will continue to be broken under the Trump administration, particularly with MAGA member Susan Collins as Maine’s Senator.  America is in distress and President Trump put us there as Mr. Beasley said.

Raise those Upside Down American Flags high and at Monument Square and elsewhere so they can be seen at The White House in Washington, DC.
