Early this afternoon a middle-aged woman was struck by the driver of a car in the parking lot of Hannaford Brothers on Forest Avenue. The driver of the car who lives in Portland said that he accidentally stepped on the accelerator rather than the brake.
Witnesses to the accident said that the driver was going the wrong way and too fast when he struck the woman about 1:30 this afternoon.
The driver of the car denied that he was driving too fast in a one way lane.
She was taken by ambulance to a hospital. It’s believed that her injuries are not life threatening, although there was speculation and rumor that both legs were broken.
“Her shoes came flying off. It was a pretty hard hit,” said one witness to the accident.
