A Sign at one of the Recent Protests Against ICE Murder of Renee Nicole King, 37, Mother of Three in Minneapolis, MN.
Out of an abundance of caution, school administrators at Deering High School and Lincoln Middle School put those schools into a brief lockout (external doors closed to people entering or leaving the school) shortly after 9 am this morning after learning of potential immigration enforcement activity on Brighton Avenue. It was quickly determined that there was no threat to our school communities and the lockouts were lifted within minutes.
This is an understandably tense time in or communty, as reports and rumors of immigration enforcement actions grow. The Portland Public Schools will continue to follow our protocols for keeping students and staff, whle also staying focused on our core work of teaching and learning.
We will continue to provide updates directly to our PPS community as we have information to share according to informtion provided by Tess Nacelewicz, Communications Coordinator for Portland Public Schools.
