Trumpy backed-off his claim that he, and only he,  has the authority to reopen the country at his solo performance tonight.  Without his coronavirus task force beside him on the stage, he said that he would be talking to the nation’s Governors in several days.

In full retreat, Trumpy said he would authorize the governors to lift restrictions at times of their choosing.  However, his goal is to have the states open up by May 1st or sooner.  He went on to say that if they don’t do a good job, the governors will be “held accountable.”  “If we are unhappy with a state, we will let them know,” he explained.  “No one ever thought anything like this (pandemic) would happen,” Trumpy has said repeatedly.  Undoubtedly he is speaking exclusively for himself.  It appears that his retreat was in response to Governors across the country mobilizing against his claim to be all powerful over them. The efforts to inform his incoming administration by the Obama administration of a pending pandemic have been well documented by Susan Rice as well as The New York Times – a warning that Trumpy chose to ignore and downplay at every opportunity.  Those documented reports are contrary to his repeated claims:  “no one ever thought…” His re-election depends on an improved stock market in the upcoming days and weeks.  He’s fond of saying he inherited “empty shelves” from the Obama administration.  He did inherit thorough briefings that he chose to disregard because he’s the anti-science president.  “It’s a hoax invented by China.”

Trump has hijacked the daily press briefings and is using them to replace the road rallies that have been cancelled because of COVID-19.  However, this makes his down right lies to the public more subject to the scrutiny of the press and the public generally.  When the press tries to make him accountable for his misinformation campaign, he lashes back at the press. He accused one journalist of being a “loud mouth” when he tried to hold Trumpy accountable.  Scrutiny is the enemy of Trumpy!

Following the long briefing, the Governor of Illinois, Governor J.B. Pritzkea (D) told a cable news anchor:  “We’ve done what we needed to do, despite the President.”

Meanwhile the anti-malaria drug that the anti-science Trumpy has touted has been receiving failing grades in minor testing around the world.  In one small testing, it had to be halted because it caused heart issues.
