Donald Trump got the message from his handlers – that his poll numbers are tumbling – by delivering another ‘chicken little’ speech today in Portland, He mostly got back on message by demonizing Hillary Clinton and Somali refugees in Portland. However, he offered no solutions which has been one of his numerous Achilles heels – except to Build the Wall to keep Mexicans out of the US. With his poll numbers in steep decline, he got the message to change his rhetoric and demonize Hillary – a natural extension of his well-documented misogyny.
Trump stayed on his dark message giving his supporters the raw red meat they crave and that won him the Republican party’s nomination for president this fall. Trump who was introduced by Governor Paul LePage, surprisingly, failed to talk about himself and his accomplishments and what he has done for the Republican party and that he’ll make America Great Again. His narcissism was well in check and under control. That was a departure from his usual bragging about his questionable business acumen –
Trump slammed the media for not telling the truth which brought applause and finger pointing at the press at Merrill Auditorium. He blasted the Obama administration for the $44 M cash to Iran that was first publicized in January. He blasted Maine is a destination place for immigrants from Somalia. “They are coming from the most dangerous countries in the world. This has to stop.” he said causing a standing ovation.
But he didn’t stray long from demonizing Clinton. “Hillary Clinton can’t be trusted as president. She’s a security risk.” Then he launched into a tirade about Clinton’s emails which caused supporters to yell: “Jail Clinton” – over and over. Trump blasted his way through a 45-minute speech tossing verbal grenades throughout to the delight of the full house.
His grenades were interrupted by five protests holding pocket constitutions and by standing ovations from his supporters. Supporters arrived from northern Maine and all over Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Trump said he came to Maine hoping to receive one of its four electoral votes. “Maybe I can get all four electoral votes,” he said to a cheering crowd just before his demonizations of Clinton and the Somalis ended at roughly 4:00 pm.
