Trump Obsession for Greenland Linked to Failure to Receive Nobel Prize

For months, President Trump has been obsessed with annexing Greenland to the US.  One day he says he wants to buy it from its owner Denmark, a member of NATO.   The next day he doesn’t rule out a miliary takeover.  Trump claims it’s a matter of our security because Russia and China are eyeing it as well.

According to a text message to  the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store sent last night, Trump claimed that since his country decided not to award him the Nobel Prize last year for stopping eight (8) wars, he does not feel obligated to think only of peace.  The quote is: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars, PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think only of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.  The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”

The message was confirmed by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store:  The Prime Minister said he received the message in response to a text he and Finland’s President Stubb sent to Trump.  In that message, they had conveyed opposition to Trump’s proposed tariff increases on eight European countries over the recent Greenland dispute and pointed to a need to de-escalate.  According to a report on the front page of today’s “The New York Times,” Trump demanded a deal to buy Greenland in order to avoid slapping new tariffs on the European countries mentioned previously.  Initially, and as of February it would be a 10 percent tariff and it would be upped to 25 percent on June 1.

In his text message, Trump questioned Denmark’s right to claim Greenland.  “Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway?  There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of yers ago, but we had boats landing there, also.”  Commedians like Jon Stewrt noting on The Daily Show “how do you think we got our land?”

“Norway’s position on Greeland is clear.  Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark and Norway fully supports the Kingdom of Denmark on this matter,” Gahr Store said.  “We also support that NATO in a responsible way is taking steps to strengthen security and stability in the Arctic.”

Gahr Store pointed out that the government of Norway is not responsible for the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize.  The coveted Prize has been awarded by a five member Norwegian Nobel Committee since 1901. The Peace Prize was famously last awarded to Venezuela’s opposition leader Maria Corina Machado in 2024.  She gave Trump her Prize recently in symbolic appreciation for his intervening in Marudo’s Venezuela.

Furthermore, NRP is reporting that the World Economic Forum said officials from Denmark “would not be attending the meeting in Davos, Switzerland, this week.  “We can confirm that the Danish government will not be represented in Davos this week,” a spokesperson, Alem Tedeneke, told NPR.

Will this tough talking bully find an off-ramp?  Or will he continue to break up NATO to the delight of Russia and Chinia and North Korea?

Where is Senator Susan Collins (R) on this?  Scared of loosing her campaign funding from Elon Musk and being scolded again by Trump.
