The third annual Carnaval Maine ended today on a high note as crowds showd up under bright, sunny skies to enjoy the initial offerings on the Portland waterfront.  The two previous events were held on the Eastern Promenade with an emphasis on winter sports.  However, the lack of snow in recent years forced the sponsors to rethink the venue and focus of the event.  Some dog walkers objected to the lack of access to the East End Beach area because of the event – an exercise area that is very popular for dog walkers.

This year’s event in the parking lot of DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant on Commercial Street, enhanced activities for children.  There was a line for face painting for children, sculpting ice blocks by Jason Bluck and much more.  The stage featuring musical groups from the Maine Academy of Modern Music kept adults entertained

Looking forward to more annual Carnavals on the Portland waterfront with expanded attractions and vendors.
