“There are 400 plus students at East End Community School (“EECS”) and about 40% of them come from low-income families. There are children that live in poverty and there are new Americans that need assistance,” said Linda Bancroft, the organizer of this year’s Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Organization Coat & Boot Drive.
This afternoon between 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm neighbors streamed in and out of the Hill House for an Open House where Jay Norris, president, and Linda Bancraft, board member, welcomed them and provided cookies, hot cider and chit chat while they dropped off warm clothing.
The MHNO has already collected and delivered roughly 600 coats to EECS. The need for warm clothing will last throughout the winter. “We welcome donations for the School throughout the year. An activity like this fosters community and brings the neighbors together for a worthwhile project,” said Bancroft.
Jonah Jones (see above right photo) said his favorite subjects at EECS are reading and math. He said he knows students who will be happy to get these gifts of warm clothing. Tobin Apse starts school at EECS next year.
Similar donations may be made directly to the EECS, 195 North Street, on Munjoy Hill.
