“It’s my favorite periodical of all the periodicals, said Will Pratt, co-founder of Tandem Coffee with a wink. Will was referring to an on-line article in the Wall Street Journal: yesterday in which he and his wife Kathleen were highlighted as part of a new generation of coffee roasters. The increased visibility more than doubled their usual number of hits on their website.
The WSJ article traced the origins of coffee roasters such as Blue Bottle, San Francisco, to todays small and creative coffee houses across the country such as Portland’s Tandem Coffee, that are continuing the changes and with a continued emphasis on beans from around the world.
Both Kathleen and Will, a very unpretentious couple despite all their success, are alumni of Blue Bottle. They opened Tandem Coffee, 122 Anderson Street on August 22, 2012. Last August, they opened Tandem Coffee and Bakery, in a restored gas station on Congress Street. Kathleen says the couple has no plans to expand. “This summer is all about focusing on what we have and making it run smoothly.”
“We feel honored to be listed with the other success stories in the article,” Kathleen said.
