The US Coast Guard Cutter Eagle and the 200-ft. Sailing School Vessel Oliver Hazard Perry will be available for free tours on Saturday, August 5th and Sunday, August 6th next week during Tall Ships Portland weekend according to a press release issued by the nonprofit.
This will be only the third time the two have been in the same place at the same time. They will be at the Portland Ocean Terminal on the Portland waterfront.
The Eagle, a 295-ft. seagoing classroom from the US Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut has a crew of approximately 50 and will have nearly 100 academy cadets on board.
The SSV Perry is the largest sailing vessel in the US. It’s the first ocean going full-rigged ship to be built in the US in over 100 years.
The SSV Perry has overnight accommodations for 28 sail trainees in addition to her 17-member professional crew.
