Mainers Want Fresh New Faces to Represent them in Washington, DC Such as Well Read History Buff, Oyster Farmer and US Marine Vet Graham Platner, 41.
Last night, Susan Collins voted once again to make it easier for big banks to hit Maine families with predatory overdraft fees. Her vote to block even a debate on restoring basic consumer protections are just the latest reminder of where Collins’ real loyalities lie.
Collins has spent her career in the pocket of the biggest corporation interests in the country from the banks and the credit card companies, to the financial giants who rake in billions by profiting off the economic struggles of working Mainers. This cycle alone, she’s accepted nearly $2 million from the finance sector, including over $500,000 from private equity and investment firms. These are among the most predatory actions in the American economy, and they have a friend in Susan Collins.
“Let’s be clear: there is no legitimate policy rationale for voting against basic consumer potections on overdraft fees,” said Graham for Maine Campaign Manager, Ben Chin. “But Susan Collins cares far more about protecting bank executives’ millions than protecting the rest of us from B.S. overdraft fees. This vote is yet another example of the deeply unfortunate reality.”
Working Mainers don’t have lobbyists, corporate PACs or wealthy donors cutting six-figure checks to politicans. The big banks do. And that is who Susan Collins is choosing to protect.
Graham lives in Sullivan with his wife, Amy, just three doors down from the house where he grew up.
