“Today we learned that the Department of Homeland Security has published a list of cities and counties that are alleged by the Department, to be sanctuary cities and as such may be subject to challenge by federal officials on unspecified questions including immigration enforcement on those locales.
I am going to reserve commenting on Portland’s inclusion in this list until we have a formal letter from Homeland Security that outlines specific facts supporting their assertion.”
Below is a quote from the web page of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that Mayor Mark DIon of Portland is responding to in his above statement.
On Thursday, May 29, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a list of sanctuary jurisdictions including “cities, counties and states that are deliberatly obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws and endangering American cities” according to the Department’s web page. “Sanctuary cities protect dangerous criminal illegal aliens from facing consequences and put law enforcement in grave danger. These sanctuary politicans are endangering Americans and our law enforcement in order to protect violent criminal illegal aliens,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem on the web page. “We are exposing these sanctuary politicans who harbor criminal illegal aliens and defy federal law. President Trump and I will always put the safety of the American people first. Sanctuary politicans are on notice: comply with federal law.”
