Gloria Jones and her small family have been receiving SNAP for the past fifteen years she told this proud to be a “left wing lunatic” this afternoon.  Gloria and her husband, who live at Munjoy South on the Hill, were shopping at a local grocery store – buying only the very basics because she doesn’t know the future of the SNAP program they have relied on for a long time.

But Gloria also doesn’t know how she and her family will get along without the monthly $360. if she doesn’t receive it this month and in the future.  “I guess we’ll be standing in line at a food bank looking for food with everyone else,” she said.  Gloria said that she and her family will know on October 27 whether or not they will continue to receive SNAP benefits into November.  “I’m pretty sure it’s dead,” she ended soberly.

Gloria retired from her job at a South Portland nursing home fifteen years ago where she worked in its Laundry Department.  “We are in our seventies,” Gloria said.  “This is really tough on us.  What is Trump doing with our SNAP money?  Using it to build his grand ballroom at the White House?” she asked angerly as we parted ways.  The ballroom is expected to be named after Trump – the Donald J. Trump Ballroom – according to cable news reports this evening.
