Troy Jackson, Mainer and Former President of the Maine Senate, is Surging in the US Senate Race to Defeat MAGA Member Susan Collins in November 2026.
Secretary of State Shenna Bellows announced this morning that she is ending her campaign to run against MAGA member Susan Collins (R) in the upcoming midterm election in November 2026. The announcement came from York County Democratic Party Chairwoman Kahie Purdy.
Secretary Bellows issued the following statement: “Donald Trump’s attacks on our democracy are only accelerating and the best way that I can serve our state and country at this moment is by focusing exclusively on my role as Secretary of State.”
This news comes as Troy Jackson, 58, a logger from Jackman, and former President of the Maine Senate, is becoming increasingly popular following the departure from the US Senate race of the enormously popular Graham Platner. Mr. Jackson was president of the Maine Senate from 2018 – 2024.
Troy Jackson was endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders, 84, (D-Vt.) at a rally here in Portland at the Cross Insurance Arena at the same time he endorsed Graham Platner for the US Senate Race from Maine last fall. He is proving to be an enormously popular candidate as well.
Late this afternoon Dr. Nirav Shah also announced that he is withdrawing from the Democratic race for the US Senate. He endorsed Jackson, In his statement, Dr. Shah called on Democrats to “vote as a united party. Susan Colllins will not be defeated without a united Democratic Party. And we cannot unite without treating one another with respect. No matter whom you supported in this race, I urge us all to remember that in the weeks ahead. As we turn to defeating Susan Collins, Mainers must remember that she is not a moderate. When the most extreme policies have threatened Maine, she has repeatedly failed to stop them. She voted for the Iraq War, gave ICE billions with no meaningful guardrails and helped put Justice Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court before Roe was overturned. Again and again, she has sided with Donald Trump when Maine needed her to stand up to him. After nearly thirty years, Susan Collins has given Mainers more excuses then independence.”
It’s also been reported that Maine Beer Company’s Dan Kleban and Jordan Wood have also dropped out of the US Senate race.
In late April, lame duck Governor Janet T. Mills (D) dropped out of the Senate race because of her inability to raise the necessary funds to continue her race against MAGA Member Susan Colins (R). Many Mainers were concerned about her age and her moderate positions. She turned 78 years old last December 30th.
