“Wake Up Republicans!” You Too Are Impacted by These Issues Supported by Certified MAGA Member Susan Collins.
Against the urging of reproductive rights advocates, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) voted yesterday to confirm another anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ+ judge appointed by Presidemt Trump.
Kathleen “Katie” Lane, whose nomination to serve on the US District Court for the District of Montana, was confirmed in the Senate by Collins and her Republican colleagues.
Reproductive rights, health and justice organizations, submitted letters in opposition to Lane’s confirmation, citing her career working against fundamental rights in abortion and related rights. Lane’s record also includes efforts to harm and vilify the LBTQ+ population and active opposition to voting rights and access to the polls.
As solicitor general in the Montana Attorney General’s office, Lane asked the Montana Supreme Court to overturn a 23-year-old precedent that created the state’s constitutional right to abortion. She initiated a lawsuit to protect medically unnecessary restrictive abortiom laws in the state and has supported efforts to oppose a total abortion ban in Guam.
Yet Senator Collins voted with her anti-abortion colleagues in Congress to affirm Lane’s appointment. In the past year alone, Collins has voted to confirm multiple anti-abortion judges, including Joshua Dunlap, even though more than 20 Maine organizaations warned her of the consequences. We can never forget this is the same senator who voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who in turn voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, stripping Americans of our constitutional right to abortion.
“Yet again, Susan Collins is voting in favor of a lifetime term for a judge who threatens abortion access in Maine and across the country. Donald Trump and the judges he has picked are doing everything they can to make it harder for people to get the care they need and deserve and Susan Collins is complicit in the court-packing,” said Lisa Margulies, Maine spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Votes. Her coment contiues: “In fact, in President Trump’s second term alone, Senator Collins has voted to confirm his judicial nominees 94 percent of the time. In November, Mainers have the opportunity to flip the Senate, block Trump and his allies in Congress from extending their defund of Planned Parenthood and banning abortion nationwide. We can instead elect a champion for reproductive health care and rights who will protect our access to abortion and other lifesaving care, not destroy it. Our rights and ability to get health care across the country depends on Mainers’ choice in 2026.”
“Although Senator Collins would like you to think she is a moderate she is not,” says this blogger. “Saying I’m so concerned but voting for the Trump MAGA agenda makes her a full blown, certified member of MAGA.”
