This Chair Was Provided for Senator Collins (R) at a Forum at the Portland Public Library in 2018, The Senator Never Showed up Despite Invitation to do So. The Forum was Hosted by “Sixteen Counties” a non-profit.
Where is Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) when you want her office staff to answer questions regarding important events? We know that she doesn’t make any public appearances in southern Maine and hasn’t for many years, if ever. Now her Washington, DC office is not accepting telephone calls from the public and it hasn’t been for the past week or so. This blogger has tried unsuccssfullly every day since Tuesday to get through to her office.
It’s Women’s History Month – a time to celebrate the courage and strength of Maine women. Mainers can proudly point to many Maine women who have contributed significantly to the state with pride. Senator Collins is not one of them.
Rather than make public appearances or answer questions over the telephone by Maine voters, the Senator from Caribou is wrapped up in the safe and protective cocoon of the “Republican Press Herald” – the publication that will never ask her a question that she’d be uncomfortable with or a follow up question for which she has no answer. Like?
What does the Senator think of the Signalgate scandal? Does she think that the Secretary of Defense should resign or be fired? Should Michael Waltz resign or be fired? Does she think that there should be an investigation into the scandal? Who should conduct it? What does she think of Convicted Felon Trump’s comment: “I don’t fire people over fake news?” What does she think of CF’s comment that he is considering running for a third term of office? What does she think of his obsessions with Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal? Where are you Senator Collins? Anyone home?
Or how is her project to establish a medical research center to replace NIH coming along? How did the meeting she was planning with RFK, Jr. go? Does the Senator agree with CF’s recent executive order on voting rights that Secretary Bellows repsonded to?
It is still Womens’ History Month as this is written. There are numerous women who should be honored this month because they excelled in some area including: Senator Margaret Chase Smith, of Skowhegan, for the courage she demonstrated when she stood up to bully Senator Joe McCarthy. Joan Benoit Samuelson for her win in the Olympic Games of 1984 in Los Angeles is another Maine women who has brought pride and integrity to the state of Maine. Poet Edna St. Vincent Millay whose poem “Renascence” brought respect to Maine when she recited it at the historic Whitehall Inn in Camden. Women from all over the state have brought good vibes to the state. It’s important to remember them especially when Convicted Felon Trump is conducting his war on women – from healthcare to voting rights. All recognition that MIA Senator Collins, of Caribou, will never achieve. That’s because she is spinenless and lacks moral courage – like most of her “business as usual” Republican colleagues.
She needs to be replaced next year by someone with courage, compassion and integrity.

She only shows up for photo ops where she can put on a hard hat and hold a shovel and pretend she gives a sh*t. And all her votes are useless… except the time when John McCain showed up unexpectedly to vote on healthcare and blew their scheme. Totally useless phony.
Couldn’t agree more with you, Elizabeth. Thanks for the comment. Carol
