Two euphoric Congressional leaders officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic party’s nominee for President early this afternoon in Washington, D.C. Senate leader Chuck Schumer and House leader Hakeem Jeffries seemed almost giddy as they praised President Joe Biden for removing himself from the consequential race and endorsed Vice President Harris to replace him on the ticket.
“On Sunday, President Biden showed the world what a great man he is. It was not an easy decision for him to make. His selfless decision to put our nation first rather than his personal ambition is part of why we love him. We truly do,” said Schumer.
Senate leader Schumer continued saying: “We can unite behind a new candidate. “We’ve seen us coalesce behind VIce President Harris.” He said that her successful candidacy will grow the Senate majority and win back the House of Representatives. Additionally, Senator Schumer said that the surge of enthusiasm felt for her in every corner of the country has been “way beyond our expectation. Our goal is to be sure that Donald Trump does not get into the White House again. We can see how nervous the Republicans are about our VP Harris. She will beat Trump and be our next President.”
House leader Hakeen Jeffries joined in the praise for President Joe Biden and his selfless decision to put the nation before his own political ambitions by “passing the torch to Harris. Kamala Harris has excited and energized the House and the nation – from the grass roots up – not from the top down. She is ready, willing and able to lead our nation into the future. I am proud to strongly support Kamala Harris for President of the United States,” he ended.
The vetting process for a running mate for VP Harris is underway with Eric Holder, Jr., former US Attorney General, managing it. Currently there are seven, many Democratic governors, under consideration. Two top contenders for this VP spot are Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona and Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania. As appealing a candidate as Senator Kelly is, it has been reported that his selection would reduce the number of Senators – not a desisrable outcome for Democrats. under the circumstances. (Senator Kelly is married to Gabby Giffords, former member of the US House of Representatives who experienced a severe brain injury during an attempt on her life.)
In two days, the Harris for President campaign has raised $100 million – setting a record for fundraising not seen before in our country’s history. She has also attracted 58,000 volunteers.
