The Sahara Club building on Washington Avenue is for sale according to sources familiar with the situation.  The sale is believed to be imminent.

The sale is conditional, however,  upon the Club finding a place to relocate to within Portland, the district that it serves.  It is believed by some that the site has been located and the Club Board has to approve it.

The Sahara Club, located at the corner of Walnut and Washington Avenue  on the desirable East End of Portland provides AA services to its members. The Club has outgrown that location and needs more space inside to conduct  programs as well as parking facilities.  The asking price is purported to be $700,000.  Formerly, the property was for sale at $400,000,, but the offer was withdrawn because it did not have a place to move to.  It is believed that situation is resolved now.

The speculation is that a restaurant will replace the Club  – growing  the number of food venues  on Restaurant Row, a/k/a Washington Avenue y leaps and bounds.  The Club has been at this location for the past twenty (20) years.  It is entirely financially independent.
