Republicans have been hit hard by the national press in the last several days, although it doesn’t seem to have sunk in – and may not until the election in November 2020.
Yesterday, Sunday, September 27, “THE NEW YORK TIMES” ran an in depth article – “Race in Maine is All About Collins (and Trump).” Branding herself as bipartisan, her voting record belies that claim. “No-Show” Collins voted for Trumpy’s 2017 tax plan which hurt the future of social security and Medicare.
The final straw for many Maine voters was her support for Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court – a judge with a record of nibbling at the edges of abortion when given the court room opportunity to do so.
Collins’ has been dubbed “No-Show” Collins because of her failure to hold a town hall or make a public appearance in southern Maine in the last 20 of her 24 year term as Senator. She does make periodic appearances with “The Republican Press Herald” editorial board – a safe place for her to park because she is protected from unwanted scrutiny from the board who supports her unconditionally. Will it support her again this year?
Despite lots of controversial coverage on cable news as well recently, “The Republican Press Herald” often tries to prop up her failing candidacy – regardless of her voting record. Polls show that Collins has consistently trailed her Democratic challenger Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon, (D-). The “Times” article states that Maine voters are more focused on “Whether a Senator Has Sold Her Soul.” Many think so. Bye’ Bye’ Susan.
Presenting lots of substantiated facts but raising tons of questions, is a front page article in “THE NEW YORK TIMES” today – “President’s Taxes Chart Chronic Losses, Audit Battle and Income Tax Avoidance.” Headlines include: President Trump paid no US Income tax for much of the past two decades; The president is locked in an audit battle with the I.R.S.; Financial pressure on the president is only growing; and he received more money from foreign sources than was known. The devil is in the details.
His efforts to suppress the upcoming election are an indication of just how terrified Trumpy is of not being re-elected. He is questioning the validity of absentee ballots, although he uses them. He has tried to slow down mail service through the United States Postal Service. Trumpy is scared. That’s because he knows that the Manhattan prosecutor is waiting in the wings to indict him for tax fraud, tax evasion, illegal consulting fees for Ivanka, hair styling expenses and who knows what else at this early stage. To whom does he owe many of millions of dollars to? Putin?
Branding himself as a successful businessman on the tv show “The Apprentice” – appears to have been another of his many lies according to the facts outlined in the “Times” article. Any con man can become president of the US- what a terrifying prospect. Some voters have been “had.” Bye’ Bye’ Donald.
