Meet Two Finalists for Superintendent of Portland Public Schools This Week

Two public forums are being held by the Portland Board of Public Education to ask questions of two finalists for the position of superintendent of Portland Public Schools according to a press release issued today.

The first public forum is this evening, Monday,May 2 from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm to meet candidate Xavier Botano, at Casco Bay High School, 196 Allen Avenue.  He is an associate superintendent in Indiana.

The second public forum is with Teresa A. Lance and will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd from 7:30 pm – to 9:00 pm at King Middle School, 92 Deering Avenue.  Lance is an assistant superintendent in Colorado.

The public will be able to ask questions of the two candidates for the position and give feed-back to the Department on them.  Following a national search, 41 applied for the position.

The board intends to announce its  decision by mid-May.  The start date is July 1, 2016. The sucessful candidate replaces Emanuel Caulk, who resigned for a position elsewhere, leaving some to believe that this post was a stepping stone for career advancement.
