A group of landlords are working to get a question on the June ballot that would eliminate caps on rent increases between tenant turnovers. The existing cap of 5% was put in place by the Rent Control Ordinance that was passed by Portland voters in November of 2020 and 2022.
Don’t be talked into thinking that this is “the good ballot question.” We ask that you refuse to sign, get the collectors name and ask to read the language. They are legally required to let you do so accordcing to an announcement by the MaineDSA.

Yesterday afternoon this blogger was walking in Monument Way in downtown Portland headed toward a bookstore there. All of a sudden a young, dishelved looking young woman approached me. Her messy appearance raised a red flag inside me! She asked me to sign a petition about “rent increases.” When this blogger asked her who she was representing, she said she didn’t have time to go into those details.. Instead, She scurried off like a cockroach who had just seen the daylight. Rather, she approached another pedestrian walkng in Monument Way. Fortunately, I did not sign the petition.
Please don’t sign the petition either.
Brit, do you have to cheat to get on the June ballot?
