The City of Portland is once again hosting a fireworks display for the Fourth of July this year. The display will be held on Saturday, July 4, in its usual spot on the Eastern Promenade, with the fireworks set to go off around 9:15 pm. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, July 5th. Food trucks will be available on the Eastern Promenade Roadway.
Fireworks wil be launched from the East End Trail. The trail will need to be closed from Cutter Street to the Water Treatment Plant from 6:00 am until deemed safe by the City Staff (approximately 11:00 pm). In the event of rain these Trail closings would be in effect until Sunday 5th (same times would apply).
The Casco Bay Wind Symphony (CBWS) will perform again this year, starting at 7:00 pm until the beginning of the fireworks show. The program will include a mix of patriotic music, popular tunes and a sprinkling of symphonic pieces.
The City would like to remind the public that the fireworks can be seen from locations other than the Eastern Promenade. These locations include East End Beach, Fort Allen Park, Amethys Park, Baxter Boulevard, Payson Park, Martin’s Point on Veranda Street and Bug Light in South Portland.
All of Munjoy Hill and the Easern Promenade will be closed to traffic (from Washington Avenue up), starting at 6:30 pm on Saturday, July 4th (July 5th Rain Dae) Sreet closures include Monument Street at Fore Sreet and Congress Street, Washington Avenue at Congress Street, Marion Street, Cumberland Avenue, Walnut Street and Eastern Promenade. Streets will be opened up again afer the fireworks display (at approximaely 11:00 PM). In the event of rain, these street closings would be in effect for Sunday, July 5th.
Cutter Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday, July 4th (except for designated handicapped parking) from 6:00 am to 11:00 PM or until deemed safe by City Staff. Access will be allowed for both launch (no extended parking, drop off/pick up only) until 6:30 pm on Saturday, July 4th. In the event of rain, these street closings would be in effect at 6:00 am on Sunday, July 5th and end at approximately 11:00 pm.
