Portland Police Searching for Suspect in Stolen Car Incident on East End

Portland Police are searching for the suspect in a stolen car with a child inside incident that occurred over the weekend on the east end of Portland.  The stolen car was recovered shortly after being reported with the unharmed child inside –  on Marginal Way.

On Saturday, November 27th at about 5:20 pm., the driver of a red Ford Explorer reported to the Ppolice that his car had been stolen on Cumberland Avenue.  The ddriver of the car said he had parked hi car near New York Friend Chicken to pick-up food from the restaurant while his 3-year old brother was asleep in the back in a children’s car seat.  While officers were on scene with the driver, other officers within minutes located the stolen car at 275 Marginal Way in the parking lot of Black Ber Medical with the child inside.  An officer woke the child, who was not injured, and stayed util he could be reunited with his family.

No suspecdt was located.  Investigators  are continuing to review evidence.  If anyone witnessed the events or anything unusual, please call 207 – 874-8575.

The vehicle that was stolen was left running and uses a keyless or “push-start” program, which may be a security concern for owners of these kinds of vehicles that do not require keys to be in the ignition system.
