On Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at approximately 9:43 pm., Portland Police responded to the southbound side of 1-295 near Exit 8 and the walking path adjacent to Tukey’s Bridge for a report of an injured person.

Upon arrival, officers located a 21 year old lying in the breakdown lane of !-295 adjacent to the walking path.  Officers immediately began providing first aid before the victim was transported to Maine Medical Center, where they later succumbed to their injuries.  The victrim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A suspect has been taken into custody and there is no danger to the public at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for later this morning.  The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
