In the Recent Past the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Conducted by the Popular Robert Moody,  Has Been a Part of the Fourth of July Celebration on the Eastern Prom; But Not This Year. One Year “American Pie” Singer, Don McLean,  was a Popular Entertainer at the Celebration. A Camden Resident, He Has Been Accused of Abuse by his Former Wife and  Daughter.

Conductor Robert Moody Led the Orchestra at the Fourth of July Celebrations on the Eastern Promenade for Years.  He is a Native of South Carolina with a Good Sense of Humor. A  Popular Feature was a Musical Salute to Members of the US Armed Forces as Well as a Medley of Patriotic Songs. The Fourth Concert was Perfectly Timed to Coordinate with the Fireworks.  He Conducted the Orchestra for Ten Years Before “Moving On.”

The City of Portland is pleased to announce it will host a fireworks display for the Fourth of July this year.  The display will be held on Sunday, July 4th in its usual spot on the Eastern Promenade with the fireworks set to go off around 9:15 pm.  A rain date is scheduled for Monday, July 5th.

In an effort to not encourage a mass gathering, there will be no musical performance, VIP Area, or ticketed element at this year’s celebration and the city will not be providing or managing food vendors as has happened in the past.  The city reminds the public that the fireworks can be seen from other locations than the Eastern Promenade. They include, in part, East End Beach, Fort Allen Park, and Amethyst Park.  The fireworks will be live streamed at newscentermaine.com.

The usual street closures apply this year as in the past.  They begin at 5:30 pm and conclude at 6:30 pm with all of Munjoy Hill closed at that time.

Pet owners are encouraged to leave their pets at home rather than subject them to the boom boom noise of the Fireworks on the Eastern Promenade.

Food trucks are welcome to set up on the water side of the Eastern Promenade from Congress Street to Cutler Street. Food trucks must adhere to all Emergency No Parking signage outside of the stated designated area.  All food trucks must provide their own trash receptacles and must ether depart prior to 5:30 pm or remain in place until 11:00 pm.
