The Portland Fire Department successfully handled a complicated vehicle extraction and a house fire in a three hour period today, Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
A 10:22 am., a vehicle was reported down an embankment on its side in the area of Congress and Frost Streets. Ladder 3 and Medcu 3 arrived to find the vehicle as repored with one occupant inside. An extended extraction occurred that required technical rescue support from Rescue and Ladder 6. Additional units on scene was the on-duty chief CS, paramedic support C9 and Engine 6. One subject was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The press release issued late this evening did not indiciate to which hospital the individual was taken and whether the individual was released from the Hospital following treatment.
At 12:30 pm., reports were received of a possible structural fire on Churchill Street. Occuring at 12:44 pm., C9 took command, reporting smoke showing and confirming an active fire on the second floor of the building. Due to the presence of several Engines and support, the bulk of the fire was quickly extinguished and considered fully under control in 15 minutes. The fire is still under investigation for an exact cause, but it is not considered to be suspicious. There were no injuries reported.
