Wharf Street in the Old Port the Site of Two Shootings.

A shooting in the area of 43 Wharf Street that left two people seriously injuried just after 1:00 am on Monday, September 12, 2022 is being investigated by Portland Police today according to a press release issued around 4:00 am this morning.

Two officers that were on foot patrol in the area heard multiple gunshots and upon arriving on Wharf Street near Union Street found a 34-year-old man that had been shot several times.  Officers applied tourniquets and rendered first aid while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance.

Moments later a second victim, a 22 year-old woman from Portland was located at the corner of Fore Street and Union Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Officers applied a tourniquet and a trauma seal while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance.  It appeared that she was shot on Wharf Street and walked to that location before collapsing.

Both victims were transported to Maine Medical Center where they are being treated for serious injuries.

Fore, Union and Wharf Streets are closed while investigators are on scene looking for evidence.  If anyone has any information that would be helpful to Portland Police in the investigations of these shootings, please call (207) 874-8575.

  1. As a resident of New York’s Hudson Valley, I tend to think of the current shooting sprees as big city occurrences. Sadly, this is not the case as evidenced by Portland’s gun violence. The situation nationwide cries for gun control while our politicians look the other way and duck their moral obligation- tragic!
