Graham Platner, Right Back to Camera, Addresses the Some of the Crowd at One Canal Plaza, This Frigid Morning
Graham Platner, a candidate for US Senate from Maine, said this morning that he has doubts as to whether or not the announcement that ICE operations in Maine have ended. His doubts were expressed moments before a protest outside of Senator Collins’ Portand office began this morning. He said he would not trust a “pinky promise” that Secretary Noem allegedly gave to Collins.
About 150 people withstood the bitter cold temperatures in the plaza outside Collins’ office/ They heard Graham warn supporters about the Trump regine that is leading this nation down the road to fascism – to the loud boos of the crowd who looked up to Collins’ 8th floor office at One Canal Plaza as they made their views known.. Frankly, it was too cold for this blogger to take handwritten notes. So, for part of the protest this blogger took refugee from the cold temps in the lobby of the building.
The protest that began at 8:30 am lasted for about l/2 hour. Around that time, protesters began to regroup inside and hail elevators for a ride up to Collins’ 8th floor. office. There small groups werel granted permission to enter the waiting room and register their concerns about ICE with a staff member, the upity Stephen Fitzpatrick IV.
One woman, Susan, told of a immigrant women she knows, with no criminal record and a long time resident of the US, who has been held up in her place of work. Since earlier this week, she has been afraid to leave work because ICE goons are in the neigborhood. Despite the fact that she is here legally, she’s afraid of being picked up by the illegal goons and disappearing into the labyrinth called justice by Secretary Kristi Noem. The line outside the Collins’ office was long with people waiting their turn to enter the inner sanctum with their concerns – four or five at a time.
Graham was off shortly thereafter to a second Protest in Bangor scheduled for noon at 202 Harlow Street.
