Today, on the final day of the second fundraising quarter, Graham Platner and Campaign Manager Ben Chin hosted a press conference on the state of the race, previewed the campaign’s upcoming Q2 fundraising report and discussed new polling amid an unprecedented wave of Republican spending, with the campaign being outspent on attack ads by rougly 4 – to – 1.”

“They’ve already dropped $9 million on attack ads, it’s not even July.  They’re spending about $1.5 million every week, plan to spend another $10 million more by early August, and again, 100 out-of-state billionaires are the people who are funneling that money and bankrolling Senator Collins’ re-election” said Ben Chin, Graham Platner’s Campaign Manager.  “So for me, the thing that actually is exciting about this is it is a good illustration of the corrupt system that Graham is running against and we are going to win this with people power — not billionaires.”

“This quarter our average contribution is going to settle in at around $30.  Nearly 99% of all our contributions were under $200 … with nearly two-thirds of our second-quarter donors giving to the campaign for the first time,” said Chin, Campaign Manager.  “The most common occupation among our donors?  It’s not billionaire or CEO or lobbyist:  It’s teacher.”

“The thing that I’ve heard over and over again — from Republicans, Independents, Democrats, from people who just sit out politics these days — is that they are tired.  They are sick and tired of working harder and harder for less, especially within a system that they know is rigged.  They can see  day in, day out, not representing their interests, and they want changes,” said Graham Platner.  “Susan Collins is the opposite of change.  She is the status quo.  She has built this sysem and she has benefited from it.  She has gotten 21 times wealthier while in office.  The average Mainer has not gotten 21 times wealthier.  I don’t know anybody who’s waiting tables, who’s fishing, who’s farming………. I don’t know anyone actually down here in the real world who’s gotten 21 times wealthier.”

No matter how much money Susan Collins and her billionaire lobbyists dump, Graham will keep traveling to every corner of this state, talking to Mainers and fighting for the lives they deserve.  This race will be fought and won on the issues that are important to Mainers, not by out-of-state billionaires or their attack ads.”

“Another favorite line of mine from the Platner Senate Campaign is:  “Collins is for sale, but Maine is not,” says this blogger.
