Evan McVeigh put his head back and let out one of his big laughs as he did impressions of some of this country’s past presidents – like Reagn, Clinton and George W. Bush. He said he’d have to watch President Obama more closely in the next week to do a good imitation of him. McVeigh was one of a core of Occupiers meeting at the Meg Perry Center earlier today to rehearse for its participation in the OccupyNewHampshire presidential primary beginning later this week in Manchester, NH.
The occupation of the presidential primary is the brainchild of about 3 dozen occupiers from OccupyNewHampshire. The group has been working on the event for about a month said Mark Provost, one of the organizers this afternoon in a telephone conversation. Occupy groups are coming from every New England state and also Albany, New York. About 600 people are expected to attend from the northeast.
The occupation runs from Friday, January 6th with a welcome at 5 pm through Tuesday, January 10 around 8:30pm with a Victory Party at McNeil’s Banquet Facility. (Bring some $$ for beer/wine/soda.) Those 5 days are packed full of activities -street theater, marches, entertainment, music, and workshops. On Saturday, January 7th, at 7:00 pm there is Ffuneral Procession for the American Dream at St. Anselm College during the primary debate, put on by OccupyManchester. OccupyMaine will be presenting its Street Theater production on Sunday, January 8th at 11:00 am called “Puppets and Power.”
Meanwhile, Maine Occupiers are awaiting Portland’s response to the complaint and Motion for a Temporary Restraining Order filed by them and a Motion for a Temporary Restraining Order in Cumberland County Supeior Court on December 19th
Meanwhile, there appears to be another Occupy event gathering strength on the Florida horizon. Occupy Palm Beach is calling for an occupation at the annual Gathering of Investors and Managers, (“GIAM”), January 22-25, at the Boca Raton Resort & Club, January 22 – 25, in Florida. According to the website, “GIAM USA has a track record of delivering 3,000 of the industry’s leading practitioners, hedge funds and asset allocators from across the globe.”
