he Three US Service Members Killed in Jordan Over the Weekend Have Been Identified. They are From Georgia.
While the nation and the world wait for the US response to the deaths of three US service members in northeast Jordan, Tower 22, early Sunday morning, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D) issued the following statement today:
“Three brave American service members were killed and dozens were wounded in an attack on US troops over the weekend in Jordan. My thoughts are with the families and friends who are mourning their fallen loved ones – Americans everywhere share their grief. The radical Iran-backed militant groups behind this clear assault on the US must be held accountable.”
As of this afternoon, news reports are that over 40 service members were injured in the attack on US service members in addidion to the three deaths. The Pentagon has said that: “Iran has its fingerprints all over the US Base attack.” It has been revealed that this is the third attack in the area in recent months. It has also been learned that the attack happened in the early hours of Sunday morning when service members were sleeping.
GOP members are divided in their response to the attack. Senator Lindsey Graham (R) has issued a statement calling for the Biden administration to “hit them hard.” That is inside Iran itself. Some believe that approach could start a wider war that the Biden administration is trying to avoid. Maine’s Senator Susan Collins (R) has issued no statement on the matter.
The identifies of the three have been revealed. They are from Georgia and two of them are women.
“The one-way attack drone hit near the outpost’s living quarters, causing injuries that ranged from minor cuts to brain trauma, a US military official said,” according to an article in today’s front page story in “The New York Times,” by Eruc Schmitt. “But the deaths of the US service members, most of whom were mlitary reservists, will almost certainly increase pressure on President Biden to retaliate more forcefuly as strife grows in the Middle East after the October 7 attacks that killed 1,200 people in Israel.”
