Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Me) has joined a Congressional push to reverse the US Supreme Court’s recent decision to grant presidents immuity from criminal prosecution.  The constitutional amendment introduced and led by Congressman Joe Morale (D-NY)  is cosponsored by nearly  50 Democratic members of Congress.  This week President Biden called for a similar constitutional amendment as part of his plan to reform the Supreme Court,

“Earlier this month, the US Supreme Court undermined the foundation of our Constitution that no man is above the law.  As Justice Sotomayor laid out in her powerful dissenting opinion, this decision could have severe longj-term consequences and upsets the principles that have existed since our nation’s founding,” said Pingree.  “This constitutional amendment not only corrects an error by the Supreme Court and protects our democracy, but ensures our nation endures for years to come.”
