A Message from a Resident on North Street on the Hill to Southern States, Although Portland Officials Have Not Sent the Same Message.  Perhaps They Like Voter Suppression.

Starting the week of Monday, August 16, 2021, construction on the Fore Street Sewer Separation Project will begin.  This first phase of the Project is scheduled to last until January 1, 2022.  During this time, Fore Street traffic flow will be one-way only  between Mountfort Street and St. Lawrence Street, according to a press release issued by the city this morning.

Fore Street and the Eastern Promenade will remain open to eastbound traffic in the direction of the Eastern Promenade through the project.  Gorham Sand & Gravel is the contractor for this project.

Project work will typically take place Monday – Friday between 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.  The one-way traffic flow pattern will remain in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until the project is completed.  Westbound traffic routing towards the Old Port and downtown Portland will be directed to the specific detour route starting at St. Lawrence Street or will be asked to seek an alternate route around the work zone. It is strongly recommended that motorists exiting the Eastern Promenade area use Congress Street or another route to avoid the construction zone.
