One Dead & Four Injured at Olympia Street Early Morning House Fire

One died and four others were injured at an early morning  fire at 11 Olympia Street according to the Portland Fire Department.  The three alarm house fire was reported to the Department at 1:14 am this morning, Thursday, March 6th.  The all-hands assignment was struck en route when significant fire visible.  On arrival, the second alarm was struck for a heavily involved one and a half-story, single family structure with multiple victims present.  Due to intense fire conditions and failing structural integrity of the bilding, crews were forced to evacuae the building and the third alarm was struck at 1:28 am.

There were five reported occupants of the building.  One is confirmed to have died in the fire and the four other occupants were transported to local hospitals for injuries.  Two firefighters were also injured, but were not transported to hospitals.  It is believed the destroyed building was a boarding house where people rented individual rooms.

The fire was considered under control around 4:15 am.  Crews currently remain on scene it was reported as of 9:30 am.  Roads had been closed overnight in the area, but are currently open with the exception of Olympia Street.

The fire is under investigation at this time.  Addiional information will be released through the Maine Department of Public Safety as it becomes available.
