Nomination papers for the Charter Commissioner seats will be available on Monday, February 1, 2021, in the city’s clerk office in Room 24 in the basement of city hall, according to a press release issued this morning.
One seat is available from each of the five Portland Districts – 1 – 5. In addition, there are four at-large seats available. The deadline turn in the nomination papers is March 29, 2021.
As a reminder, Portland voters approved creating a charter commission to open up and review the city’s charter during the July 14, 2020 election.
On August 10, 2020, the city council approved the appointment of three members to serve on the Charter commission and established that nine additional members elected by Portland voters will serve on the Commission. Voters will elect the remaining nine members of the Commission on June 8, 2021 and then the Charter Commission will begin its work of reviewing the city Charter.
