Secretary of State Shenna Bellows announced yesterday that the “No Labels” party has officially withdrawn as a political party in Maine.
“In June of 2024, “No Labels” notified our office that it no longer planned to remain a qualified party. However, at tht time there was no mechanism in Maine law to allow a party to withdraw its party status once it had become qualified,” said Secretary Bellows.
The Secretary of State introduced a proposal to the Maine Legislatdure that would allow a qualified party to voluntarily dissolve its party by filing a written request, siged by the party’s chair, with the Secretary of State. The proposal passed and became law on September 24, 2025. The provision is retroactive to January 1, 2024, and the “No Labels” party was disqualified as of Sepdtember 24, 2025.
“All voters who were previously enrolled in the ‘No Ldabels” party hae been updated to unenrolled,” said Secretary Bellows. “Any Maine vodter who would like to change party enrollment can do so utilizing our online over registration portal.” The online voter registration portal established in 2024 is at www.maine.gov/vote.
