New Fire Chief LaMoira to be Sworn in at City Hall; Tomorrow at 2 pm

Jerome LaMoria will be sworn in tomorrow afternoon as the city’s fourteenth Fire Chief for the city of Portland.  The ceremony takes place at 2:00 pm. in the State of Maine room, City Hall.

LaMoiria was unanimously confirmed by the City Council at its December 17th meeting.  LaMoira will will oversee a Fire Department of two hundred and thirty-four professional firefighters and civilans.  LaMoria’s father, Norman LaMoria, will have the honor of pinning on the new chief’s badge at the ceremony following his taking the oath of office.  Norman served the Newfane Vermont community for fity years as a firefighter and fire chief.

Prior to joining the city, LaMoria served as the Training and Exercise Coordinator for the Prince George’s County Office of Homeland Security.  For more than twenty-five years, LaMoria was a professional firefighter with the Prince G eorge’s  County Fire/EMS Department rising through the ranks to Acting Deputy Fire Chief of Emergency Operations at his retirement from the department in November of 2011.  With a career force of 765 and nearly one thousand volunteer response personnel, the Marhyland Department responds to an average of 130,000 incidents annually and operates more than forty community fire stations with an annual budget of $130 million.
