Mt. Joy Community Orchard Spring Planting Festival Rescheduled for May 17th

The Annual Event Set for Saturday, May 10th Has Been Weather Delayed to Saturday, May 17, 2025.

A Crowd of Over 30 Enjoyed the First Annual Winter Wassail at the Mt. Joy Orchard on Munjoy Hill on February 24, 2024.

The annual plant swap, work party, pot luck lunch, etc. hosted by “Team Joy” at the eleven year old  Mount Joy Community Orchard on the east end of Portland, has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 17th.  The annual Festival had originally been scheduled for Saturday, May 10th – tomorrow.  However, the delay is due to the forecast for yet another rainy Saturday.  The Orchard is located near the North Street Community Garden, North Street.

The “Festival” starts at 9:00 am with the swapping of plants followed by planting at 10:00 am, then grafting at noon with some more planting and oher tasks to follow.  It will all be made more fun with a potlluck lunch.  Bring something to share with others if you can. The Festival ends at 3:00 pm.

It was Jeff Tarling, now retired city employee, who started the Mt. Joy Community Orchard back on May 21, 2014.  Sixty students from the East End Community School directly across the street from the Orchard joined him in the grand opening of the Orchard.  You may read more about it on the post dated May 21, 2014 herein.
